Domestic Violence
Domestic Violence Survivor to Motivational Speaker, J'Anmetra Waddell chose to use her experience of abuse as a starting point for her journey of self-awareness, empowerment and success. Today, she's a motivational speaker based in Atlanta, GA.
As a child, she saw her father abuse her mother physically and emotionally. As an adult, J'Anmetra married someone who was physically, emotionally and mentally abusive. At times the abuse was so severe she was only allowed to eat or drink once a day and almost lost her life on three different assaults. After years of abuse J'Anmetra left the relationship with two small children and began her life again with nothing. In the beginning she faced many obstacles including having to represent herself in a court of law for a continuation of her restraining order due to attorneys being afraid to represent the case. J'Anmetra's unique story also involves her faith as her abuser was the Pastor of the church. It is with this that J'Anmetra is able to relate to a wide variety of women despite age, race or economic background.
J'Anmetra lived with friends until she was able to find employment and begin a career in Healthcare. Which promoted her to purse her MBA in Healthcare Management and currently she is working on her PhD in Organizational Leadership. J'Anmetra is a firm believer in educating those around her about how to break the cycle of violence and understanding how you start over when there is nothing to start from!
Today J'Anmetra shares her story of empowerment with audiences in her workshops, church organizations and community based group. J'Anmetra lives by the quote "Don't Let What You Cannot Do Interfere with What You Can Do" by John Wooden.
